FAQs
WHAT IS HBOT?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a method of administering oxygen at greater than atmospheric
pressure to a patient in order to improve or correct conditions. By providing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber we are able to deliver 10-15 times more oxygen than if delivered at sea level or at normal
atmospheric levels. Some of the effects this has are to promote the growth of new blood vessels,
decreases swelling and inflammation, deactivates toxins, increase the body’s ability to fight infections,
clears out toxins and metabolic waste products, and improve the rate of healing. HBOT should be used to
compliment conventional therapies and treatments.
DOES YOUR CLINIC USE 100% OXYGEN?
Yes, we use 100% medical grade oxygen that is dispensed through a mask or a hood, whatever is more
comfortable for the patient.
ARE YOUR CHAMBERS MONOPLACE OR MULTIPLACE?
We have large, monoplace chambers.
ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS TO HBOT?
The only downside to HBOT is ear discomfort when you are pressurizing. This is more noticeable if
the patient has a sinus infection or a head cold. If this is the case we recommend rescheduling your
appointment until you have cleared up.
HOW LONG HAS HBOT BEEN USED?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has a long history. The first chamber used to treat patients
was constructed in 1662 by Henshaw. And yes, the date is correct, which makes hyperbaric
therapy almost 350 years old. Needless to say, there have been a large number of studies done,
and its effectiveness has been well established. Hyperbaric Oxygen has been in use for many
years to treat many different conditions, such as stroke, head injury, cerebral palsy, bonefracture,
migraine headaches, chronic fatigu
e-syndrome, sports injuries, AIDS, sickle cell
anemia, acute spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, lyme disease, diabetic retinopathy, coilitis,
and diabetic foot ulcers.
